So, on my ongoing quest to seek out strange, new (to me) pc space games that I never had the chance to play on my beloved Amiga, I got hold of Stralancer, the kind of fore-runner to Freelancer. I've only played the first mission and been through the tutorials in order to make a quick assessment, but I must say, I'm very impressed so far. The combat feels really nice to me, with a good sensation of flight, a nice cockpit display and some cool weaponry. The only whinge (there had to be one) is that due to its age it doesn't properly utilise modern graphics cards, so the lighting from nearby stars etc has huge graduations in it. I guess the Voodoo 3 hardware would have smoothed all that out. Anybody recall if there is a fix (wrapper?) for this?
