This review is from: Dragon Age 2 - Bioware Signature Edition (DVD-ROM) I was really looking forward to Dragon Age 2, since its predecessor (Origins) was such a blast. Sadly, Dragon Age 2 is a chore to play. The game has many problems; I'll touch on a few: RECYCLED CONTENT There are a limited number of environments in the game. Very early in the game you'll notice that you keep going back to the same cave (or warehouse or sandy beach or whatever) over and over and over again. QUEST QUALITY The quests are bland, dull. There's no spirit of adventure, no feeling of embarking on an important or exciting mission. Most quests are very short. The worst quests (which are mercifully short) are the "side quests". These quests are triggered when you find an item belonging to someone else. For example, you might find the pommel of a sword in an old crate. A big glowing arrow on the mini map will direct you to the appropriate person to give the item to, who will reply with "on my! I never thought I'd see this again!" and then you'll get a small monetary reward. COMBAT The tactical combat from Origins (and its predecessors, such as Baldur's Gate) is gone. Tactical combat has been replaced by hack & slash. Enemies come at you in waves. They teleport into position in and around your group, or else fall out of the sky. Many of the weaker enemies can be felled with a single hit. Combat is very similar to whack-a-mole. There are many, many other problems with DA2 which I won't document here out of a desire to keep this review short. Summary: don't purchase this game at full price. Rent it, or wait for it to appear in the bargain bin. -------------------------------------- -- Andrew Rybenkov There are trash, there are junk, and there are Bioware Furthermore I think Bioware must be destroyed.
