ATI Catalyst 11.4 Drivers Solve Some Big Issues ....for some users ;)
Mostly those with Windows 7 particularly 64 Bit.
Catalyst 11.5 has now been out for a few days but I haven't used that yet.

I have had the following Graphics problems for many months
with Win 7 64 Bit & Radeon HD 5870 card.
Problems which are now (cross fingers) gone.

1) The cards GPU switched up to 99% constantly, & the Memory clock & Fan
stay at high levels constantly for no apparent reason.
Need to restart to stop it....
ATI say this was due to Firefox.
Now OK  though the Memory clocks still tend
to stay at higher speed than needed sometimes.

2) Games using the Quake engine (eg Jedi Knight Outcast ...Quake 3 ..Soldier
Of Fortune..
& many others) refused to start due to the OpenGL video used  being unable
to cope with the enhanced implementation in recent drivers.
People have had to use an older DLL file or rename the games main exe to
Quake3
to make them work..
Now OK..

3) This next issue seems to be rarely reported, but I have had it since
installing the
HD 5870 over a year ago.
That is when playing AVI Video files in Media Player the darker parts of
the image have constant 'Sparkles' flickering & also the picture quality has
a hash
quality.
Only does this with AVI type not e.g.  MPG4  or online TV etc.
Strangely if a Subtitle file (srt, idx) is in use the faults not there.
Now cured.
