Kentucky Route Zero has the remote gas station in a semi-deserted place, but only for the first act of the first episode. It does have a lot of lonely, semi forgotten places that time forgot ages ago. Although it does not fit well with this question and you spend limited time on it, Control has a genuine motel that is the true embodiment of the trope. Every time they agents need some time to rest when traveling, they always end in a motel that is exactly how they expect a motel to be.
