Weird Graphics Glitch - Any Ideas?

Hi everybody!

About a month ago I started noticing an intermittent graphics glitch 
that is occurring regularly now.

Win XPSP3 with ATI Radeon HD 5870 Vapour-X 1 Gb

The gitch first appeared on the team menu when playing World of Tanks. 
Weird vector lines would shoot off the text characters in all 
directions, flashing and flickering, but only on the menus where there 
is text. Once the game loads there is no problem with the graphics, only 
the menu, so I assumed maybe a font or text rendering issue.

A couple weeks ago I noticed this was happening on a few other game 
menus (Saboteur, Fallout New Vegas) though World of Tanks is still the 
worst. It doesn't happen on all game menus.

However, I also noticed that when watching WMP movies and in some games 
(Fallout New Vegas) I am seeing a "noise" effect. Little flickering 
patches of dots all across the screen in patches. A perfectly black 
screen also has these little "noise" static patches, usually purple.

My driver is current. Even updated my Catalyst Control Centre. The 
machine and card have been stable for almost a year and this just came 
out of the blue.

It makes me sad.  :(

Anyone have any guesses as to what could be happening?
