According to the docs I have access to only the MS44-AA modules (part number 54-19103-AA) work in the 3100/76. These modules can also be used in the 4000-60 and 4000-90(A?). There are other MS44 parts, including: MS44L-AA (part# 54-19145-AA, a "low cost" 4 MB module) (I also found MS44-AL and MS44L-AL with the same description) MS44-CA (part# 54-19103-CA, 16 MB) all of which can be used in the 4000-60 and 4000-90 models. > Ebay: > (sorry for the broken Link) this (8 MB MS44L-BA) will probably not work in the 3100/76, nor in the 4000 models. It was probably used in the MicroVAX 3100 Model 40 and Model 80, and another guide explicitely mentions the 8 MB modules could not be reused when upgrading a Model 80 to a Model 90. The modules should have the two distinguishing letters (AA, BA, CA) etched into the lower left corner. The VAXstation 4000 Model 96 SOC lists, along with the MS44-CA module, a faster MS44L-EA module (4 MB, operating at 60ns vs. 100ns for all the other MS44(L) modules). Other MS44(L) part numbers were used for memory "kits": MS44L-BC 16 MB ECC memory for 3100 Models 85 and 96 (consists of four MS44L–AA (4 MB) modules) MS44-DA 32 MB (consists of two 16 MB modules) MS44-DC 64 MB ECC memory for 3100 Models 85 and 96 (consists of four MS44–CA (16 MB) modules) MS44L-FA 16 MB (consist of four of the faster MS44L-EA modules) And there's probably more... :-) Hans.
