After being with Earthlink for 27 years, I was notified that they finally discontinued their free access to the usenet newsgroups as part of their subscription fee.

So, based on the suggestions I saw here, I signed up for a free text-only account on eternal-september.org.  (Although they do accept donations).

So, if anyone here is in the same position as was I, it's something to consider trying.

I have been disappointed by the lack of messages here lately from our wonderful collection of Apple II stalwards, but even on the 'cool kids' Apple II sites these days (and the myriad of sub-sites / groups) there are a lot of things that don't really appeal to me. YMMV, of course.
