The cause was the TimeMaster II HO card and the Uthernet2.drv driver. I tested both with and without the Transwarp, and the cause is definitely the clock card alone. There were no problems with the Uthernet.drv driver for original Uthernet. The phrase "Hi there!" is an echo command that I put in my .profile.
