My two cents:
- use absolute addressing
- do not cross page boundaries
- the range of bytes is a multiple of 256 (I know, it is a long range of bytes)
Those will reduce the number of cycles taken by the routine.

Another trick, pre-calculate everything needed: the end address for instance.
