If you're using JOYCE (or ANNE) to run random files you've downloaded from the Internet, it would be a good idea to upgrade to version 2.2.7. <http://www.seasip.info/Unix/Joyce/> The reason is that earlier versions of JOYCE / ANNE allow specially written CP/M programs to read / write arbitrary files on the user's computer, without asking. I'm not aware of any such programs, but to rule out the possibility, it would be safer to use version 2.2.7. The latest version, by default, prompts the user for permission whenever a CP/M program (for example, the supplied IMPORT / EXPORT utilities) wants to access an external file. It's also possible to disable the function altogether. My thanks to Alan Cox for drawing this to my attention. -- John Elliott Thinks: This is what a nice clean life leads to.
