Okay. It seems the number of pirates you encounter varies - 
and if you are unlucky enough you also get a Thargoid ship to 
fight against. I also noticed that if you use the 'hypervelocity jump'
to reach the station faster you are going to encounter less 
enemies.

On my best run I encountered and destroyed nine pirate ships - 
three of them with missiles and rest with the laser cannon. Sadly 
I never made it to space station as one ship (which I thought was
civilian and therefore did not attack it) decided to do a surprise 
attack and launched 4 (yes, four!) missiles simultaneously
towards my ship! Needless to say, there was no chance for me 
to escape them  :o

Anyone else managed to destroy enemy missiles with laser
cannon? During dogfights I managed to do it twice - but sadly
not in the final attack.
