#4350 — O.S.5.18 query

FromA.Lefevre <lefev@freeuk.com>

SubjectO.S.5.18 query
Message-ID<a7680d7252.A.Lefevre@freeuk.com>
I didn't load 5.18 until Tuesday 13th. No problems, all appears to work.
Today, 17th tried, to log on to my bank, Barclays.
I can't remember the exact wording, but couldn't find SSL connection to the server. This is using Oregano2 with the Iyonix. Two attempts failed, so
tried Netsurf and all OK. Later tried shutting down the Iyonix, wait for a
minute and reload, but the result is the same. The last time I logged on to the bank was mid Feb, so 5.18 is suspect. Before I revert to 5.16 to
prove or disprove has anyone else had a similar problem?

I am aware that Barclays have recently changed their web site so that
it no longer works with NetSurf.

Not only that, it's actually a bit harder to use the new one than the
old one, even using Firefox on Linux.

Try
http://barclays.mobi/
instead. Haven't tested it, but looks a lot simpler.

After reading the rest of this thread tried logging on using the old URL,
which last worked on this machine about a month ago. But now doesn't.

The above does, though, using Oregano.

So it does - with the usual warnings each time it load a new page. ;-)

I remember early on with Barclays online having trouble with the RPC
(before I got a PC) and they were very helpful. Not the usual 'why aren't
you using Windows'. Can't remember what it was - but they did sort it and
I was able to use Oregano.

Grrr the new Barclays website is all flashy but doesn't do somethings
anywhere near as easy.

Yes you can reorder the display of accounts, but now you can't see business
& personal on the same page. Can't copy & paste balances... and more

A lot of reflashing over a Web Site!
Maybe you could enquire about softloading 5.16 to prove/disprove.

At the back of my mind, there's a fix that has to be loaded for Barclay's
which has been removed with your new Boot sequence.

Here, (4.39) it's in Boot Choices Hardware Disabled Internet User and is
the only command in the file.

sysctl -ew net.inet.tcp.rfc1644=0

Almost the same here (6.20):

sysctl -ew net.inet.tcp.rfc1644=0 { > null: }

That's quite a leap to make, when it is equally (if not more) likely
that the bank has changed how it does stuff. Is there *anything* else
that used to work (on 5.16) that fails on 5.18? I can't imagine an OS
modification would break one bank's website but not have effects felt
elsewhere.

Best wishes,

Rick.

Thanks for all the comments on my problem with 5.18 and Barclays Bank.
I tried Theo's suggestion of barclays.mobi, and was surprised that it worked and showed my Membership No. (With NetSurf I had to key it in.) The page
was displayed differently and without the usual cues, but it got there.
Then tried normally with Oregano and again OK. Well Sunday is the
maintenance day so I'll assume that it was a funny at their end.
