My message that started this thread was the first ever to be posted by Newshound using NNTPS - and this is the second. NNTPS is secure, like when using STARTTLS, except that it's secure right from the start. My main concern at the moment is that it relies on the user specifying port 563, in order to know to use NNTPS. This won't work if the user's chosen news server uses some other port for NNTPS. In turn that would require some other mechanism in the group file to specify NNTPS. Orpheus's news server and Eternal September both use 563 for NNTPS. David
