                  Regression 2012

Second International Workshop on Regression Testing
    https://sites.google.com/a/allegheny.edu/regression-2012/

Montréal, Quebec, Canada, 17 April 2012

co-located with the Fifth IEEE International Conference on Software
Testing, Verification, and Validation (http://
icst2012.soccerlab.polymtl.ca/)

IMPORTANT DATES
===============

Submission deadline: 30 January 2012 (11:59 PM Apia, Samoa
Time)
Notification of acceptance: 24 February 2012
Camera ready version: 12 March 2012
Workshop date: 17 April 2012

THEME AND GOALS
===============

Regression testing has received a significant amount of attention from
both academics and practitioners during the last 20 years. Even though
the use of regression testing techniques often leads to software
applications with high observed quality, the repeated execution of
test
cases can be so costly that it accounts for half the cost of
maintaining
a software system.

The regression testing research community also faces the additional
challenges of transitioning established techniques into practice,
improving the status-quo of the empirical evaluation of techniques,
and
proposing advanced methods for applying regression testing to modern
software that is often complex, rapidly evolving, concurrent, and
cloud-based.

Viewing these tensions and challenges as an opportunity and not a
threat, and looking to tap the potential of well-established
researchers
and up-and-coming members of the community, the theme of this year’s
workshop is minimizing problems, maximizing potential, mapping
prospects.
The organizing committee of Regression 2012 invites you to participate
in
this event by submitting a paper and registering to attend this
workshop
co-located with ICST 2012.

    -- Test adequacy criteria
    -- Test coverage monitoring
    -- Test suite execution
    -- Test suite reduction
    -- Test suite selection
    -- Test suite prioritization
    -- Test case improvement
-- Affiliated regression testing methods
    -- Delta debugging
    -- Combinatorial testing
    -- Program understanding
    -- Automatic fault localization
    -- Static and dynamic analysis

SUBMISSIONS
===========

Regression 2012 invites papers in these categories:

-- Full Papers: Ten page papers with the detailed description and
thorough evaluation of one or more of the previously mentioned
topics, well-suited for describing completed, original
research.

-- Short Papers: Five page papers with the brief description and
preliminary evaluation of the previously mentioned topic(s),
ideally accommodating reports on experiences, tools, and
middle-stage research that demonstrates early promise.

-- Fast Abstracts: One page papers with a succinct description of
a late-breaking result or early research achievement, perfect
for
notes about undergraduate and graduate research and thought-
provoking
ideas that are in need of revision, extension, and feedback.

All papers submitted to the workshop must be unpublished original work
and must not have been submitted anywhere else for publication. The
paper submissions must be in English and conform to the IEEE two-
column
conference format described by the IEEE Conference Publishing
Services.
All papers must be in PDF format and properly submitted through the
workshop's EasyChair page.

All submissions will be reviewed by at least three members of the
workshop program committee. Full and short papers will be judged on
the
basis of their clarity, relevance, originality, and overall scientific
and/or technical contribution. Fast abstracts will be judged on the
basis of their clarity, relevance, originality, and potential for
generating discussion among the workshop attendees. A paper should
clearly demonstrate a connection to the aforementioned topics. All
papers
are expected to exhibit high quality writing and formatting. Authors
are
strongly encouraged to ensure that their papers adhere to the writing
guidelines described in books like "Bugs in Writing" by Lyn Dupré and
"Writing for Computer Science" by Justin Zobel.

PUBLICATION OF PAPERS
=====================

The accepted papers will be published as a volume with the ICST 2012
proceedings. Workshop attendees will receive a copy of the proceedings
when they arrive at the main conference. The slides associated with
each paper presentation will be made available on the workshop Web
site
after the completion of the event. Authors of accepted papers are
required to register for the workshop and present their papers at the
workshop in order for their material to be published in the
proceedings.
