I have old Maple 7 running on a windows 8.1 PC.  Most stuff works fine, but one problem I'm having is that

read abc;

attempts to read file abc from some default directory (how do I change what that directory is?).  If the read fails I would like it to search subdirectories automatically.  But it doesn't.  Basically, I would like a "search path" of read to include or be set up with more than one directory where it will search.

Is that possible?
