There isn't in general a single source of truth for zone data in many DNS setups. For example, much of the zone contents may come from a database, possibly augmented by a zone file fragment, and there may be a separate signing server that keys its keys from a third place. So it's wrong to insist that the bad old terminology has to be used with the DNS, because it's often completely incorrect.
