Is your difficulty with the (La)TeX output viewed as a text file or with its presentation after processing? I've only ever looked at the .tex to sort out problems in nuweb. I agree about the latex2html output; pdflatex (with the hyperref package) suits me fine (perhaps I'm not very demanding).
