Yea, it's a shell issue. It's hard to find a decent Bash, ash has it's 
own failings, personally I usually use (pdk)sh 
(http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/util/shell/pdksh-5.2.14-bin-2.zip). 
Helps sometimes to put a copy of sh.exe in \bin.
Also there are various environmental variables that affect which shell 
is used, %SHELL% %MAKESHELL% and %CONFIG_SHELL%. Should also have 
%TMPDIR% set.
