Looking for Systems Administrator DC Metro -One Year Contract

We are looking for an experienced system administrator for a one year contract position in Silver Spring.

Will primarily liaise with Help Desk/Support Specialists and System Engineers, therefore must possess a wide range of IT skills.

Strong interpersonal and communication skill with the ability to build critical relationships, Solid writing skills, training users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting positively with upper management.

Must be able to communicate very clearly in conference calls, knowledgebase writings and PowerPoint presentations.

Independent problem-solving, self-direction.

Performs routine audits, performance tuning and capacity planning of systems and software.

Manages Storage Backup (VERITAS) and data replication services.

Comfortable with most aspects of operating system administration; for example, configuration of mail systems, server & network systems installation and configuration, printer servers, must have a strong grasp of computer security, and installing third-party software. Applies operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes.

Has a solid understanding of windows-based operating systems; understands paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, filesystem concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions).

Adding, removing, or updating user account information, resetting passwords.

Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; can configure NFS and NIS, NT domains; can use nslookup or dig to check information in the DNS; understands basic routing concepts.

Be proficient with Microsoft Office suite, including Project and Visio,

Responsibility for documenting the configuration of all network systems.

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

On call when a computer system goes down or malfunctions, and must be able to quickly and correctly diagnose what is wrong and how best to fix it.


Required Background


Bachelor of Science degree

3-5 years of technical experience managing and implementing Microsoft Windows server technologies.

3-5 years of experience designing, managing and implementing complex technical solutions.


Desirable Background and Skills

Industry Certifications * MCSA, MCSE, CNE, Cisco CCNA or CompTIA's A+

Experience in VMWare, Citrix, Windows Terminal Services, SAN/WAN technologies is a plus
Appropriate Responsibilities

Receives general instructions for new responsibilities from Manager of IT.

Administers a complex site alone or assists in the administration of multiple sites.

Initiates some new responsibilities and helps to plan for the future of the site/network.

May direct the work of novice system administrators or Help Desk/Support Specialists

Ability to work from any location (company has multiple sites).
