At least in my grade school days Asian history wasn't included in the official arc of history with the exception of Marco Polo. I once found a book in the library that presented historical timelines worldwide so you could easily see what was happening in 500 AD for example. I regret not tracking the book down and buying it. I suppose there is something similar someplace on the web.
