In my longer post I expanded it to more than the kernel. Many of the changes developers are proud of don't mean anything to me as long as the applications I use still work. That particularly applies to DE eye candy. Everything I have is either AMD or Intel with integrated graphics so I don't have to worry about that can'o'worms.
