One winter in Arizona I built some of the historical radios like the 
regens from stuff mostly scrounged in the desert. I used 12 gauge shotgun 
shells (fired) for coil forms. Punch the primer out and you had a 
convenient hole to screw it to the breadboard. The 'breadboard' was retro 
too, a piece of plywood not a fancy wireless type.
