I don't remember if they were selling them or if it was display but it that era they sold mopeds, farm tractors, and other farm equipment so maybe they were taking a shot at cars. The Dauphine's had a brief sales bump but Germany won that war. Many years later I had a Renault Alliance rental. It wasn't a bad little econobox and fun to throw around on the curves on Mount Tam. It was a joint venture with AMC was so unpopular by that time they went with the Renault branding. Renault puled out when AMC was bought by Chrysler. Peugeot lasted a little longer but was gone by the early '90s. Neither ever had spectacular US sales and I thing the EPA and safety legislation requirements were worth meeting for them. There was a brief rumor about Peugeot coming back but Stellantis has no interest in rocking the US market where Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram are doing fairly well.
