All the desks and chairs were separate and we would sometimes push them against the wall for activities in the middle of the floor. The Catholic school down the street where we went for 'religious instruction' was newer and the desks had hinged tops rather than stuffing everything in from the end. That probably wouldn't have helped my housekeeping.
