Microsoft's C/C++ 7.0 compiler was released in '92. 

Of course not having the STL until '94, followed by the C++ Standard 
library sometime later meant everybody did their own thing. 

'The C Programming Language' still describes C. I think I have the 2nd 
edition of 'The C++ Programming Language'. It vaguely resembles C++ in 
2026.
