A couple of the programmers at work used Ubuntu. The upgrade to the Unity release was a definite WTF? One switched to CentOS until RH screwed that up. Not only do distros get chosen by chance but some distros manage to alienate their users and cause a switch. The original Red Hat Linux pissed me off in 2000 with their antics and it took me 25 years to give Fedora a shot. OpenSUSE didn't exactly alienate me but going from 13.2 to Leap was problematic for many people so I rode 13.2 into the ground. I do have OpenSUSE on the Ventoy stick just in case but the Endeavour/Arch install has been doing well.
