Henry Ford figured that out. Early on he paid his workers much better than the prevailing rates on the theory if they couldn't afford a Model T who was going to buy them. However the suit by the Dodge brothers clarified the issue -- a business has one objective, making money for the shareholders. Both Ford and Edison had a low opinion of the money men.
