The idea was we could use the ALI data to automatically create a Call For Service and pop a screen that the calltaker could then fill in with additional information from the caller. The problem was there was no uniform specification for how the data was presented and sometimes the same telco changed the format. The interface application used a rather cryptic file to describe the various formats so the address, latitude, longitude, or other info could be parsed correctly. Job security for that programmer :)
