I've never had the necessity. I should dump the landline. It doesn't get much use although my ex did call it on Thanksgiving Day. It's not cordless and since we tend to talk for a long time I prefer the mobile so I can wander around. Otherwise I get robocalls, most of which hang up hen they get the 'leave a message'.
