I'm not sure how she does it but the cat recognizes both my car and the bikes. Even before I turn into the driveway she is off the deck like a shot to greet me. She doesn't respond to other vehicles. If she is wandering around in a neighbor's yard she also hurries back. I don't know about raccoons, particularly in an urban environment. The urban deer seem to have figured cars out. There was an amusing dashcam shot on reddit a few weeks ago of a happy little deer family in a crosswalk like good citizens. That's better than the humans dressed like ninjas that cross the road wherever they damn well please. They get hit and the city drops the speed limit another 5 mph rather than letting natural selection take its course.
