We had a woman from Columbia who would sit in on teleconferences with our clients in Puerto Rico to give a running translation if they switched to Spanish among themselves. Sometimes their private discussion were heated and rapid fire and she could only get the gist of it. Sometimes the misunderstandings are amusing. I watch some British police or crime shows and often the head honcho is a woman who they address as 'Ma'am'. As far as I'm concerned they are calling her Mom. Some of the British actors also do something with 'murder'. It isn't quite 'murther' but there is more than just 'd'.
