One thing to remember is they are quite a bit heavier than road bikes. An off shoot of Rivian is supposed to have a new model out next year. Like a hybrid car, the pedals are only connected to a generator which charges the battery and provides a little propulsion. There is a limp home mode that only uses the generator output if the battery dies. I can't think that would be much fun. That will add another dimension to the argument of whether something with pedals that aren't connected to a wheel are bicycles or some sort of moped.
