That's about where I stopped. Somehow my reading of Exodus wasn't the same as the way it's usually presented. Joseph's brothers sell him into slavery in Egypt. With some mumbo jumbo he winds up being the shadow government. He writes home to tell his brothers and their friends that the pickings are good, come on down. They then corner the grain market and confiscate the farmers' output for a government relief program. The taxation bankrupts the farmers. During a lean period Joe and the boys sell their grain back to them at a premium. Finally the pharoah kicks off and the Egyptians realize what a screwing they've gotten and are a bit miffed. God arranges a plague or two to put the deplorables in their place. That really sets them off so Joe and his tribe steal everything that isn't nailed down and decamp to greener pastures. They find a new place that their tribal god says is all theirs so they kill off the people living there. In one of the later ethnic cleansing events the tribal god is pissed. 'What's with the fucking goats? When I said kill them all, I meant all. Men, women, children. pussy cats, and the frigging livestock.' I've read the sacred writings of many different religions. Maybe some of them got a leg up by deceit and genocide but they generally leave that part out, not write it down and take pride in it.
