Wirth's 'Digital Circuit Design for Computer Science Students' uses it to simplify gates. It's all logic after all. I started my career designing industrial controls with ice cube relays, electromechanical timers, push buttons, and limit switches. Same thing. Funny thing is I was never very good at formal logic derivations.
