The ship isn't hauled out. It's run in until it's barely afloat at high tide and you wait for the tide to ebb. The Grace Dieu example is an exception. The idea didn't catch on in Maine. There aren't the extensive areas of flats that are exposed at low tide, probably the remnants of Doggerland.
