Speaking of format problems... I'm not sure what Thunderbird does but Pan doesn't handle it very gracefully. I did have other problems than 'Iron Heel' in mind. In 'How I Became a Socialist' he realizes some of the people he meets might have been strong blond beast like himself before they were beaten down but I don't know if the feeling really lasted. Buck has ancestral traits that allow him to survive and become the 'Big Dog'. Following on that I think in his heart London saw more of Wolf Larsen in himself than Van Weyden. London's social Darwinism is never far below the surface. After all it's the remains of the Wolf House at Glen Ellen. Then there is the Yellow Peril. London had no use for Asians particularly when Japan won the Russo-Japanese War. London wasn't alone in that; Japan beating a (sort of) Western nation wasn't supposed to happen. 'The Mutiny of the Elsinore' doesn't get mentioned very often. London most certainly didn't have empathy for the multiracial mongrels of the crew. London was a complex person that I can identify with but a 2025 'socialist' better think twice about claiming him. He needs several gallons more whitewash than Margaret Sanger.
