Language gets hazy and is inadequate for the description of reality. It was a convenient development to convey information between humans, expanding the range of communication beyond gestures and grunts. The problems began when we used the tool to construct a continuous narrative of the world around us and created handy structures and abstractions. There aren't two cats out in the yard. Humans use generalities to build the construct 'cat' from the reality and use that construct to say there are two of those constructs. In reality there aren't two of anything. Trying to pull yourself up with imaginary bootstraps is a difficult task and tends to result in Zen type constructs. Or, you can make the fatal flaw that Plato made when he created metaphysics and say the imaginary construct is reality.
