The Catholics wouldn't have been banned for a few centuries. I don't know if it still is the case but a few years back I read there were more church attending Catholics in the UK than COE. Seems some of the former COE parishoners didn't care for the antics of the Anglicans and their American cousins and there wasn't much doctrinal difference in the first place.
