I got a needle full of local anesthetic for my last extraction and went for a hike afterwards. I've never been sedated. Sedation wasn't offered and I don't know if it was even available. Twenty five years or so ago a dentist might write a hydrocodone script after an extraction. Now you're lucky to get Tylenol. In fact after the operation to pin a broken femur a few years back, I got Tylenol a couple of days. It doesn't do much for me so I passed. I think if you yelled, screamed, wept, and so forth you might get tramadol. However when they show me that cute little chart of pain levels from 1 to 10 I usually pick 'mildly annoying'.
