I doubt they did. Cotton was a minor crop until Whitney invented the cotton gin in 1793. Slavery was on its way out until then. As a side note the indigenous Cherokees in the southeast enslaved captured members of other tribes. However, they realized Africans were much more tractable and started buying slaves. When they were expelled they took the slaves with them to Oklahoma. The Cherokee had many more scruples about breeding with the Africans.
