So much has been lost. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Station_(Albany,_New_York) That was replaced by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albany%E2%80%93Rensselaer_station More than the architecture, Union Station was in the heart of Albany. Rensselaer is a small town on the other side of the river so it's like landing at JFK. "Okay, I'm here. What do I do now?" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Station_(Troy,_New_York) When I was very young my mother and I took the train from there to go over to the Boston Flower show. They just tore that one down. If you wanted to take the train you had to drive to Albany or, after they shut that one down, Rensselaer. So in my lifetime rail travel has went from a common occurrence to an inconvenient, expensive way to travel outside of specific corridors.
