That's a simplistic treatment of Poland. Britain was stupid enough to pledge support to Poland. Poland was stupid enough to believe the Brits were in a position to support anything and got on their high horses, refusing to allow a corridor connecting Germany to East Prussia. For whatever inexplicable reason the Brits didn't lose the entire BEF and managed to bring them home using every rowboat they could beg, borrow, or steal. When someone says they have your back make sure they can deliver.
