OpenSUSE dropped a number I was using, and now the trend seems to be spreading. The "improved" versions really ain't. Problem - lots of software saves a LOT of code by just running those utilities in a shell and parsing what comes back. Suddenly it's broken .... And I *do* prefer 'ifconfig' to 'ip'. Much more straight-up informative report ... what you're REALLY looking for .....
