He cause enough turmoil that I would call it a change. He (almost
singlehandedly) changed Linux, how it boots and other important things by
absorbing older procedures with systemd.

Unfortunately I also only find speculations for a possible reason. Most
are comments at Shashdot, Reddit and other "social media".

We might never know.
