This is the truth. Johan Norberg in his excellent book The Capitalist 
Manifesto, shows exactly the above with statistics. Yes, many people live 
hard lives even today, but if we compared the wealth, quality of life, 
infant mortality etc. globally today, with only 100 years ago, all data 
points indicate that we are way better off today.
