I think making gun powder is very simple. There's loads of youtube videos, and I imagine that a couple of pipe bombs would be far easier and more explosive than car battery bombs. Fun fact... a swedish wanna be terrorist was caught because he went into a hardware store bought 20 car batteries and the store thought it was suspicious that a bearded gentleman from the middle east should suddenly buy 20 car batteries! =D
