The tech sector has always been weirdly prone to partisan tribalism re: companies/organizations/standards or even specific pieces of software that will never love anyone back, but the chatbots really do seem to worm their way extra-deep into the psyche of "AI" boosters even by that standard - a cocktail of the human tendency for anthropmorphism, post- purchase rationalization (note how often it's the people who pay for it arguing that you can't *really* judge it based on any of the free options,) and a certain subconscious desire-to-be-fooled, I s'pect. Deeply baffling; gonna be real interesting to see the psych field try to break it down once the dust has settled from the impending collapse.
