Yyyeeeaaah it's that *second* bit that's kinda the problem - providing nonessentials as a bolt-on is fine, but the Wayland devs' approach has more typically been to insist that You Don't Need That. Like, they're *just lately* coming around to the idea that applications ought to be able to determine the size & position of their own windows, but since they spent *years* arguing that it was Not Necessary And Actually Bad, they don't even have a mechanism to provide the *option,* currently :/
