Looking at the SMBUS and Smart Battery docs, it seems that there are a lot of parameters that can be read and written from/to a smart battery. The Manufacturer name and OEMinfo fields seem especially interesting as they are 32 bytes long and have no (standard) specified content. Would it be possible using the linux access to the SMBUS to tag a battery in my laptop with my system name and other info in those fields? I have googled around, but I haven't seen a definitive statement of whether linux supports SMBUS block write mode in that case, and whether (most? all?) batteries have write protect on those fields. Anyone know? Thanks, Ted -- ------ columbiaclosings.com What's not in Columbia anymore..
