I have read that many developers would like to remove from kernel 3.0 the support for ISA. I think it's a bad move and now I tell you why: ISA, even though it was developed many years ago, was in the new motherboards until about 7 years ago. Now, a computer of 7 years ago may not still be considered "retro", because many people still using it as primary or secondary computer, and with the latest kernel installed. Why should those users must to change their sound card or network? In my opinion should not be removed from the kernel supports so important, such the ISA or the floppy just because from "some years" no longer in use. The only way to make the kernel lighter is to reduce the number of all those device drivers, and allow users (or developers of the distribution) to install them when they need it, like in Winblows. Obviously this is just my opinion, what do you think that? Bye and sorry for my english. -- matrobriva <matrobriva@libero.it http://matrobriva.altervista.org> free software&GNU/Linux 4ever! ;-)
